COLLISION OF TWO BRISTOL BEAUFORTS
5 MILES NORTH WEST OF BAIRNSDALE, VIC

RAAF Mark VI Bristol Beauforts A9-85 and A9-88 collided in mid air about 5 miles north west of Bairnsdale on 27 August 1942.
The pilot of Beaufort A9-85 was killed in this accident. The crew of A9-85 were as follows:-
Sgt. A.J. Cato (pilot) killed
Sgt. A.W. Baxter (navigator)
Sgt. K. Goodfellow (wireless air gunner)
Sgt. E.R. McMulen (wireless air gunner)
The crew of A9-88 were as follows:-
F/Lt. R.A. Ridgway (pilot)
Sgt. R. Callender
Sgt. S.A. Pope
Sgt. G.W. Wilson
Beaufort A9-85 was originally delivered to the RAAF in July 1942. It was converted to components after this crash.
Beaufort A9-88 was originally delivered to the RAAF in July 1942. It was involved in another accident at Yanakie (where is Yanakie?) in September 1943. It was converted to components after this crash.
