COMMANDEERED BY THE MILITARY DURING WW2

The Prince of Wales Hotel at 29 Fitzroy Street, St. Kilda, Melbourne, Victoria  was commandeered by the Americans during WW2. It is located on the corner of Acland Street and Fitzroy Street, St. Kilda.

"Banff", located at 145 Fitzroy Street, St. Kilda was also commandeered by the American as barracks for soldiers during WW2. I

Can anyone tell me what the 
Prince of Wales Hotel was used for by the Military?

The St Kilda Historical Society Inc. believes it was used as
 a US Headquarters, or was it just used as an Officer's Barracks?
