On an unknown date, unidentified wreckage of an aircraft, believed to be that of a USAAF P-39 Airacobra, was located 3.5 miles west of Cape Grenville, south west of Ethel Island.
It is not clear whether this could be one of the many Airacobras which forced landed on either 26 April 1942 (9 lost) or 1 May 1942 (six lost). The "Aircraft Crash Sites - Australia" list suggest that it may be possibly linked to the crash of a P-39 on 25 April 1942.
