Mallacoota RSL and Historical Society has converted an old building at Mallacoota’s airstrip into a military museum. The building is known as the Mallacoota Bunker and was once used to house the operations room of the forward advance base for the RAAF during World War Two. It operated in conjunction with the radar station at Gabo Island.
There are lots of wartime items on display at the RSL Bunker Museum, including a propeller from an Avro Anson.
The Mallacoota RSL Bunker Museum is open during holiday seasons and for groups by appointment. Admission is AUD$2.

Sappers from 16 Const Tp, 39 Construction Squadron (39 Const Sqn), Australian Army carried out restoration work on the Mallacoota Bunker. Many of the soldiers were apprentices from Gippsland Group Training. They replaced the original floor of the bunker, waterproofed the outside of the bunker and installed new wiring.
