CRASH OF LOCKHEED AIRCRAFT "CARMANIA"

AT CAIRNS

Lockheed aircraft "Carmania", owned by W.R. Carpenter & Co., crashed into dense mangroves about one mile from Cairns airfield after taking off at 0400 hours. Captain Edwin Derek Crisp and Captain Clive Roberts were both killed. Their bodies were returned to their home cities for burial. Captain Crisp had recently participated in a dangerous escape from the Japanese bombing in Wau.
